We all thought faxing would be obsolete by now, but we still get asked to fax important documents. To fax a document, you’ll need a valid email address, a mobile app or access to an online faxing service.
Here are three ways to email or fax an online document.
- FaxZero
- FaxFile
- eFax

FaxZero: For Online Fax Needs
Fill out a simple form on their website to send documents and a cover page to a fax number. While FaxZero offers free faxing, there are limitations. Free faxing is only available to addresses within the United States or Canada, and each fax can contain up to three pages (not including the cover page).
FaxZero also offers paid faxing services like international faxing and Almost Free Fax. The cost per fax for international faxes varies by destination country. Sending a fax to Iceland costs $1.99, while sending one to Burundi costs $25.41 for the same number of pages (15). The Almost Free Fax service is $1.99 per fax and includes a 25-page maximum and no FaxZero branding on the cover page.
Here’s How to use FaxZero to send a fax:
- Visit the FaxZero website. FaxZero.com is the website. The fax form is on the front page.
- Fill in the Name, Email, and Phone fields under Sender Information.
- Fill in the receiver’s name and fax number in the Receiver Information section.
- In the Fax Information section, choose one of the Choose Files options to upload your faxable files. Your file must be one of the following: Word (DOC, DOCX, or RTF), PDF, PNG or JPG image files, Excel (XLS or XLSX), TXT, TIFF, GIF, Powerpoint (PPT), or HTML.
- After selecting Choose Files, select a file from your computer to upload. Open the file by selecting it.
- Then, type a message for your cover page in the blank text box section below the Choose Files section.
- Fill in the Confirmation Code field with the randomly generated code found beneath this blank box.
- To send your completed fax submission form, select either Send Free Fax Now or Send $1.99 Fax Now.
- FaxZero will email you a confirmation after you submit your form. This email contains a confirmation link that must be clicked to send your fax.
- An email will be sent to you after your fax is sent informing you of its delivery status.

FaxFile: When You Don’t Have a Computer
If you don’t have a computer but have the files you need to fax on your phone, a faxing mobile app may be the best option for you.
From your mobile device, FaxFile can fax documents and images. This app can fax PDF, Word (DOC or DOCX) and image files (PNG and JPG).
Sending faxes requires in-app purchases (called fax credits). Sending faxes within the US and Canada requires 10 credits per page, per recipient. Purchase 50 credits for $2.49.
Check fax rates to make sure the company faxes to your desired country, and how many credits it will cost to do so—prices vary greatly depending on the country.

eFax: For Frequent Email Faxes
Unlike FaxZero, eFax requires a monthly membership fee. The most notable feature of eFax is that it allows you to email a fax number using a regular email program.
Then, as usual, log into your email account and compose a new message. Attach any files or documents as usual, and your cover page will be whatever you type in the email body. eFax allows the most file formats to be sent of the three services listed. To send a fax, simply type the recipient’s fax number followed by the domain “@efaxsend.com”.
However, eFax membership is expensive, especially if you don’t fax often. Two membership levels exist: eFax Plus and eFax Pro The Plus membership costs $10 up front and $16.95 per month. This membership includes 150 free pages per month, with additional pages costing $0.10. Membership is $19.95/month plus $19.95 setup fee. Pro members get 200 free pages per month.
