Trust and participation can be boosted by giving recipients a choice to either opt in or out. Giving customers a choice like this is important for them and good for business. If someone has explicitly told you they do not want to receive your emails, there’s no point in continuing to do so. You can expect a lower sending score and a lower open rate because ISPs keep tabs on this data. Put them off and only invite those who have shown genuine interest in hearing you out. Those who are interested in receiving your emails can do so by clicking the “Opt-in” link and joining your exclusive mailing list.
Employing Merge Tags
If you want your email recipients to confirm their interest or opt out of further correspondence, you can do so with the help of merge tags. Use the email builder’s drag-and-drop interface to compose a message, then select a contact group from which to send an opt-in/out button. The best way to learn how to link these items together is to read the guidelines below:
Reconfirm: Opt-in
- Add a block button from the editor’s blocks column to the workspace.
- Find the content block on the left side of the screen and click it.
- Add [opt-in: text you wish to add] to the button text under the content block.
- It is OK to use this merging tag in the body of a written piece.
- See how the link will look in the final email campaign by previewing it in the email program.
Your subscribers should be given the option to opt out in the same way. In that case, please read the following directions carefully.
Reconfirm: Opt-out
- Add a block button from the editor’s blocks column to the workspace.
- Find the content block on the left side of the screen and click it.
- Add [unsubscribe: text you wish to add] to the button text under the content block.
- This merge tag can also be used in the body of a sentence.
- Preview the email to see how the link will look in the final version.
Note: Since each subscriber gets a different link, the merge tag should be used in a sentence/text or as the button content, and not in the link block.
